As an example, the soft Arran cheeses are made with milk from the island’s only remaining herd of dairy cattle, who lazily graze on lush pastures in Shiskine Valley. The milk is also used to make ice cream. Another example is when farms grow barley, which is used in local whisky production. The by-product of draff (the spent grain) is then fed back to the livestock so there are some very happy beasts on Arran!
Arran produce also includes chocolate, coffee, gin, beer, meats, preserves, oatcakes, biscuits, and as you drive about our island you will see roadside ‘honesty boxes’ that invite you to purchase fresh eggs, honey or vegetables.
Whether you’re using the produce on your holidays or taking it home – make sure you enjoy your Taste of Arran!
