Farm Tours

Learn the land

Arran is a real living, working island. Our farmers work hard to maintain the lifeblood of the island – literally. Whilst tourism and associated businesses play a huge part in forming our identity, so too does agriculture, and there can be no better way to find out more than to participate in a farm tour.

A farm tour offers a great experience for all the family – everyone will learn amazing new facts, and children will be delighted to meet some of the livestock up close and personal! Bellevue Farm offers amazing tours taking in sheds, barns, paddocks, hen runs, and even a bug hotel. The Currie family have established Bellevue as a great attraction where you can have the unique opportunity to help feed the animals, collect the eggs and hear from the farmer about farming life on Arran. You can see what happens on a real working farm and hear how the routine changes throughout the seasons. The access to various livestock is seasonal – so in summer months the cows are out in the field; at lambing time, the sheep are indoors, etc. However, you will always be able to meet and feed donkeys Hamish & Murphy, Tabitha – the miniature Shetland pony - chicks, rabbits, ducks, hens, goats, and the amazing alpacas. The 90 minute tours run all year round, and you must book in advance as they are very popular!

You can also try out one of the shorter self-guided experiences available in their ‘big shed’, where you can find out more from various interpretation around the walls, get hands-on with rabbits and feed some of the animals.

Whatever your choice, there is always lots going on and there’s opportunity to purchase local farm produce at the end of the tours.

And just as a wee addendum, did you know wool from the sheep and alpacas is used in fabulous scarves and jumpers created locally and sold at the Old Byre Showroom in Machrie.
